We've just come home from the Welsh meeting: another great experience for pupils and teachers!!!!!!
Now a lot of work is waiting for us, but we're plenty of energy.... green energy, of course!

WELCOME TO OUR NEW FRIEND!!!

AN UNUSUAL FRIEND BUT VERY SPECIAL FOR US BECAUSE...

IT'S A...GARDEN!!

ITS NAME IS ...

THE MULTICULTURAL GARDEN

ON OCTOBER, 4TH WE ORGANIZED A CEREMONY TO CELEBRATE IT!
THE MAYOR FROM AGLIANA AND OUR HEADTEACHER WERE THERE.
IT USED TO BE A SAD AND LONELY GARDEN BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAVE EVEN A NAME!!

WE DECIDED TO TRANSFORM IT INTO A SPECIAL PLACE WHERE CHILDREN COULD PLAY AND LEARN TOGETHER....

DURING THE CEREMONY WE LISTENED TO SOME IMPORTANT SPEECHES,

ONE OF OUR FRIEND EXPLAINED THE MEANING OF THAT NAME...

IN OUR CLASS THERE ARE STUDENTS COMING FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES ...

LEARNING ALL TOGETHER IS MUCH BETTER!!!

NOW THE GARDEN IS HAPPY BECAUSE EVERYDAY LOTS OF CHILDREN WORK AND PLAY THERE...

WE ARE VERY PROUD OF IT!!!

Hi friends!
We enjoyed so much creating eco-games that in classes 4 Marialida and pupils has just created a new table game:
THE HOLIDAY GAME

It has been created in September
Marialida asked: "What do you remember about summer holidays?
Do you want to draw a likely moment, or a beautifull place where you spent the summer : by the sea, on the beach... ?"
Pupils drew a lot of pictures with seaside objects and their activities on the beach: "I made a sand castle...I played beach-volley, with ball..."
Then they 've decided to use them to play:
Marialida prepared some small flashcards and asked to find, to point to put on...:" Where's? Where are? When? What's this? Who's this? What colour is it?..."
A lot of fun remembering the sunny and happy holidays

BACK TO SCHOOL!

Hi dear Comenius friends,

we are back to school after long hot Summer holidays...

In Agliana school started on the 12th of September...we must be honest the beginning wasn't that easy...so we had a fantastic idea!!!

Why don't we celebrate the new school-year in a special way?

Yes, we decided to dedicate the first school days to COMENIUS and we organized some

INTERNATIONAL GREEN DAYS!!!

HOW?

OUR FANTASTIC GREEN BOARD GAMES!!!

The Green board games coming from Norway, Wales, Greece and Elba

were used to learn some important rules about the ENVIROMENT.

Lots of children were involved in this activity and they were so happy!

International Day in Elba

Dear friends,
our last school day was FANTASTIC thanks to all the very nice and exciting Eco-Games we made and received from our friends.
It was our way of celebrating the International Day. Here you are some photos:

Children enjoyed very much the International day and were very excited playing with games prepared by other children!
But we didn't only play.... In the previous days a 13 pages book had been prepared: its name is "An opened-doors school": there are children's words, teacher's words and families' words about this school-year in the Comenius partnership. And photos, al lot of photos. Unfortunately it's in Italian.... we made it for the families, for our Mayors and for all the people that have worked with us in environment activities.

Elba schools

Our school was opened in 1976, a design/building project between the Department of Education and Science in London, The Welsh Office and Dyfed County Council.
Five small village schools were closed in order to provide a wide and rich opportunity for us children to learn and play together. In 1984, Ysgol Gynradd Gartheli in Llwynygroes closed and the children of the village started attending Ysgol y Dderi.
Our school is a community school with seven classes from Nursery to Year 6. We are a happy school with a capacity for 144 children.
The school building is very modern and beautiful and was designed especially for us. Most areas are open plan and on our level. We value the inclusiveness of the design.
The school hall is the heart of our school, where we meet twice a week for collective worship. It is also used for Physical Education and school dinners. We have playgrounds within the Foundation Phase and junior department which are lively and colourful, with many fun and stimulating activities for us. In addition we have a field, an activity area, and we are also very lucky to share the village play area with the community.
Our forest field is an important space, where we learn many new skills and apply many of those we have learnt in the classroom. A fenced area is our garden where we cultivate fruit and vegetables. We are also involved with the Long Wood Project, a local community forest where we have planted trees and participated in Forest School initiatives.

Our school is in Porto Azzuro, a village founded by the Spanish on the wonderful sea!! Our school's name is "Giuseppe Cerboni" in Marconi Street and it is in the heart of the village. It's very big, and a bit old, it's pink and it's got big windows so we have bright classrooms. There are very nice flowerbeds in the small garden with palm and holm trees. There's also a small but beautiful vegetable garden where we grow some kinds of vegetables. At ground floor there are the Secondary School, the staff offices and the head teacher's office. If you climb up the stairs you arrive at the first floor: There are primary school's classrooms. Some are small and some are very big. All of them are nice, bright and comfortable. There is also a school library with lots of books and a L.I.M. There's a gym with circles, balls, a basket and ninepins. In the gym the noise rumbles! I don't like it... If we shout the noise is terrible. My favourite place is the vegetable garden and the library. I would like a lab too. I hope you like our school.

Our school is a large state school located in a rural area not far away from Florence.We have about 1650 students aged between 3 and 13. It consists of 8 separate buildings corresponding to 3 school grades: nursery, primary and lower secondary school.Each school has its own features corresponding to the age and the needs of students but they also have common characteristics such as a computer lab, a library and... of course a vegetable garden where we can grow flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables!!

Who was the Comenius Programme named after?

John Amos Comenius (28 March 1592 - 4 November 1670) was a Czech teacher, educator and writer. He served as the last bishop of Unity of the Brethren and became a religious refugee and one of the earliest champions of universal education, a concept eventually set forth in his book Didactica Magna. He is considered the father of modern education. He lived and worked in many different countries in Europe, including Sweden, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Transylvania, the Holy Roman Empire, England, the Netherlands and Royal Hungary.
