International Day in Elba

Dear friends,
our last school day was FANTASTIC  thanks to all the very nice and exciting Eco-Games we made and received from our friends.
It was our way of celebrating the International Day. Here you are some photos:

Children enjoyed very much the International day and were very excited playing with games prepared by other children!
But we didn't only play.... In the previous days a 13 pages book had been prepared: its name is "An opened-doors school": there are children's words, teacher's words and families' words about this school-year in the Comenius partnership. And photos, al lot of photos. Unfortunately it's in Italian.... we made it for the families, for our Mayors and for all the people that have worked with us in environment activities.

Our School open to parents

During this last month we shared a lot of things with our parents. We are very happy about the work we've done with the project.

First of all, our vegetables were ready to be cut and consumed so we invited parents to school to help us out.

Mothers and grandmothers took our vegetables home, prepared delicious dishes and brought them to school. We all  had a very nice big meal together under the trees.

With a father's help, we prepared a part of the garden for new plants.

We also invited parents to school to celebrate this exciting and creative year!
We showed them our plants full of summer vegetables, we danced and sang, we played games, we had a theatre performance and we sold our crafts made by reused materials and offered the money to a non profit organisation for children.

This is a short video we shared with the community on our school's blog.

It was a fantastic year!!!

Astakos, April's work!

1. THE FIVE SENSES GAME
Students from classes C and D made a special trip through their five senses with the help of herbs and spices. They smelled oregano, they saw rosemary, they touched thyme and many more...

First of all, they placed small quantities of herbs and spices in small plates. They wrote names on small cards and matched them with the herbs.

Then, they smelled the herbs and tried to remember their names

After that, they closed their eyes and tried to guess the herbs by their smell

They really enjoyed the game and asked their teacher to repeat it, although some herbs were too difficult to find! At the end of the game most of the students were able to recognise all the common herbs and spices but also some really rare ones!

2. The ROBBISH (ROBot and rubBISH) family!
Class E2 decided to collect and reuse some of our everyday rubbish at school. They designed and created an eco friendly robot family to decorate their classroom!

They gathered bottles, aluminum cans, straws, plastic bags, used paper and a lot more...

They worked in the art class and tried to make use of all these "useless" things... And look at what happened:

We learned that when we think green we should never forget the three R's: reduce, REUSE, recycle
